The conditions in which zoo animals are kept have become greatly better over the last ten years. For example, one change for polar bears has been to feed them with live seafood and frozen vegetables.
The value of zoo-breeding ( 繁殖 ) is questioned for the reason that some species, such as the African elephant, do not reproduce well in captivity ( 圈养 ). Some zoo opponents, people who are against keeping animals in the zoo, fear that the result of breeding programs may be new species of “zoo animals” which are used to living in captivity, not in the wild. They say that the money spent each year on zoos around the world ( about 250 million pounds ) would be better spent in protecting animals’ natural ability of living, such as the Tsavo Rhino Sabctuary in Kenya, where the black rhino has been brought back from the edge of death through careful management in the wild.
Perhaps there is a choice. The zoo condition and the natural wildlife have long been thought of as opposites. But it might be more productive to think of developing zoos so that the conditions in which the animals are kept are similar to their natural homes. In other words, rather being against zoos, the answer may be to change their nature. This can only help to make zoos a nice place for wildlife protection.
Zoos co-operate with each other in order to prevent inbreeding ------ breeding from closely-related animals. If animals that are closely related to one another mate, there is a danger that they will produce unhealthy babies.

Daniel Radcliffe, at twelve, is about to be global superstar. For him it seems still unbelievable that he was picked as an actor to play Harry Potter more than a year ago. He remembers the night he was told he won the part of Harry: It was a Friday and he was in the. bath. "My dad came ill and said, 'Dan, guess who they have chosen to play Harry Potter. ' I said the name of another actor, because I totally did not think in a million years that they would pick me. ‘Someone else?' he said. When he said that, I suppose I did have a tiny bit of hope that I might have got it, but I didn't want to count my chickens.
And then he said, ‘Dan, it's you.' I actually cried with joy. It was the biggest shock of my life. "
Playing Harry Potter is obviously a huge, golden opportunity for Daniel. He has made one film, The Chamber of Secrets, and is being considered for the next five films. This means he could be playing Harry Potter until he’s almost twenty. "He will earn a large amount of money from the films, Exactly how much is a secret that he and his parents will keep to themselves, but it could be about one million pounds for each movie. That's a lot of money for a 12-year-old boy. "I think I'll save it," says Daniel matter-of-factly. "I don’t know how much I'm getting, and I don't want to know because I don't think that's important; It's not about the money, it's about having fun and meeting people. " "This is perhaps why Daniel has done so well in the acting," Robbie Coltrane, who worked alongside the boy playing Hagrid, the giant, says of him, "Daniel's a very good actor. And I think that's the key to it, because if he decides to pursue (追求) it he will do very well. He has a grown--up attitude in a way and a throwaway (信口开河) attitude at the same time. In fact, it's exactly the same kind of attitude that gets us all through it."

Key Factors of Success
Is there a "success personality"? Some winning combination of qualities that leads almost naturally to achievement? If so, exactly what is that secret success formula (公式), and can anyone develop it?
At the Gallup Organization we recently focused in depth on success, examining the attitudes of 1,500 successful people selected casually from Who's Who in America. Our research finds out a number of qualities that occur regularly among top achievers. Here is one of the most important, that is, common sense.
Common sense is the most outstanding quality possessed by our respondents (回答者). 79% award themselves a top score in this quality. And 61% say that common sense was very important in contributing to their success.
To most, common sense means the ability to present sound, practical judgments on everyday affairs. To do this, one has to sweep aside extra ideas and get right to the core (核心) of what matters. A Texas oil and gas businessman puts it this way, "The key ability for success is simplifying. In meeting arrangement and industrial management, reducing a complex problem to the simplest term is highly important."
Is common sense a quality a person is born with, or can you do something to increase it? The oi! man's answer is that common sense can definitely be developed. He attributes his to learning how to debate in school. Another way to increase your store of common sense is to observe it in others, learning from their and your own mistakes.
Besides common sense, there are many other factors that influence success knowing your field, self-reliance, intelligence, the ability to get things done, leadership, creativity, relationships with others, and of course, luck. But common sense stands out. If you develop these qualities, you'll succeed. And you might even find yourself listed in Who's Who someday.
52. It can be learned that common sense ______.
A. is something that common people like best
B. is a popular quality a person is born with
C. is something that enables one to form correct opinions
D. is a quality that is possessed by common people
53 According to the passage, when trying to solve a problem, we had better ______.
A. get experience through practice B. pay attention to the most important part of it
C. keep on learning as much as possible D. rely on ourselves as well as luck
54. The passage is mainly concerned with ______.
A. organizational ability and good working habits
B. the way to gain big profits and achieve fame and success
C. knowledge and interest which are primary to success
D. what successful people have in common
55. According to the oil businessman, how can a person develop his / her common sense?
A. Become a businessman. B. Learn how to debate and learn from mistakes.
C. Become famous. D. Simplify things.
